Originating from Turkey between 1880-1900, this antique traditional Oushak wool rug features a unique marriage of colorways and storied symbols. Hand knotted in high quality wool, while the diagonal salmon pink and beige protective eye symbols in the field lead the eye inward against a dimensional, multi tonal brown and beige background, the wrapping borders enjoy a unique partnership of eight-pointed “Solomon” star and the Goz eye, respective motifs representing the mother goddess womb and protection from the malevolent gaze. The union of these symbols is as uncommon in a collection as the perfect symmetry of stylized black, peach, and beige color variations continuing out to the finely woven guard border.
