Originating from China in 1910, this antique Peking rug enjoys a rich and varied combination of ornate colourways with Art Deco reminiscent floral patterns. Hand knotted in high quality wool, the medallion field design depicts a highly stylized floral vase in the accenting royal blue and white hues seen in the complementary floral depictions throughout the piece against a rustic golden-yellow background. In addition to the Agra and meandering inner borders, the contrast of stylistic outlines and soft, curvilinear sensibilities in the spandrels and guard border are unique to this piece among a select family of Peking treasures.
