Handwoven in wool, circa 1950-1960, this 3×11 vintage Afghan tribal kilim runner rug, with stripes across its surface, is a classic Afghani design in the Rug & Kilim collection. 

On the design:

Originating from Afghanistan, this runner rug is a rich versatile piece reflecting the unique design narratives of Afghan weavers. With a dark brown field, the design features stripes in pink, red and blue across the surface. Striped pieces like this were often woven from several long, narrow pieces into one, due to the fact that the Afghan weavers had to work in smaller spaces.
