Rug & Kilim boasts its exemplary take on texture in Scandinavian style with this 9×12 flat weave—from the latest “Watson” texture of the award-winning collection. Handwoven in banana silk, the kilim features a geometric pattern in horizontal striations sitting comfortably in shades of blue for a soothing vibe (notably the first representation of this mid-century modern Swedish style in this construction). With exceptional movement & versatility to complement interiors of different styles, a neat piece for interiors yearning a sophisticated collectible. Further boasting the durable body and resistance our initial Scandinavian Kilim line is reputed for in the field.

Custom Capable: Please note all custom orders are subject to a 3-day return policy upon receipt of the CAD, at which point a full refund may be honored. Yarn samples can be made available during the process on loom as well, subject to the 3-day window without prior approval of extension. All custom sales following the approved CAD are final without these exceptions.

Further on the Design: The newer employ of handwoven silk also remarks a specific use of banana silk, a conservation-conscious element and one notably difficult to dye. In this case, the yarns were dyed in-house to ensure colorway harmony true to our quality-conscious reputation in the industry, and we’re quite proud to have achieved the same weighty body and durability as our previously recognized Scandinavian Kilim with this new, iconic look and texture. The unique weaving process and equally distinct result furthers, if not exemplifies, the original spirit with which Josh founded this collection—as both a means of honoring the Scandinavian movement and contributing to it as a modern maker. The noticeable differences from a labor of love in a handwoven flat weave rug speaks to us in Scandinavian Watson with a refreshing new energy—one that captures the honorific intention of the collection, the effort of its creators, and the collaborative spirit Josh aspires to as a known creator after 40 years of industry knowledge accrued.

Further on the Material: The use of an all-natural banana silk—named for its origin in recycled banana leaves—adds a conscious element of conservation that subtly attests to the original Scandinavian weaving traditions. Similar to our use of undyed natural yarns in our other Scandinavian textures, this pays tribute to the Scandinavian weaving tradition of using excess yarns and interweaving them into ‘finished’ pieces for an all-together new look—materials previously recycled, discarded or otherwise repurposed for something both respectful and brand new.

Scandinavian

The Scandinavian Collection presents geometric designs delineated with varying pile heights for tactile emphasis, with numerous fresh, refined patterns woven in a unique variety of yarns and classic colorways. Often referred to by Josh Nazmiyal as “a new language in design” the modernist collection celebrates our unprecedented textural diversity, a formidable Kilim line never seen in these spacious sizes, and an exciting departure from traditional geometry that simultaneously embodies the original design.

Some of the most well-received patterns have drawn inspiration from mid-century pioneers of the aesthetic, reimagined with Josh’s deep reverence of the style and his drive to present the vintage style with the utmost quality and possibility. To that end essential functional concerns were innovated, especially in the flat weaves where the original pieces were fewer, smaller and more vulnerable to folding underfoot and we’ve achieved a durable body resistant to buckling or shifting like traditional flat weaves. A number of our Scandinavian Kilim pieces likewise enjoy a subtle, intriguing colorway variation created through the aforementioned blend of undyed, natural yarns, lending to a unique, tasteful sense of movement complementing the classic geometry.

Our goal was to ensure that the soul of Scandinavian design aesthetic in both functionality and minimalism was observed, while durability, beauty and restraint were addressed in kind.
