Vintage Mid-Century Moroccan Geometric Multicolor Fabric Rug 15087

Originating from Morocco in the 1950s, this vintage mid-century Moroccan fabric rug was created with textural, durable fabric, and portrays a subtle nod to ancestral symbolism. Hailing from a select Moroccan style employing wild, vibrant geometric colourways of bright green, blue, yellow, red, white, orange, and a variety of hues available to the weaver, this piece also employs a unique horizontal asymmetry to its geometric agricultural pattern; namely, the lower half of the field design seems to employ elongated paternal Moroccan hammer and peg symbols representing masculinity or the presence of men in the weaver’s life and culture. It is uncommon to see resemblances to these symbols as subtly employed as they are here, whereas these figures are typically seen isolated or emphasized rather than playing a part of a celebratory portrait.
