1Do you offer appraisals for rugs and textiles?
Yes. We offer informal evaluations as well as formal appraisals, drawing on decades of market experience and our extensive in-house archive to provide thoughtful, informed valuations. Each assessment considers condition, age, craftsmanship, provenance, and market demand.
2What do you need from me to begin an appraisal?
For an accurate evaluation, we ask that you provide clear, well-lit photographs of the entire rug (including corners, back, and any labels or inscriptions), precise measurements, and any relevant history—such as the country of origin, age, or fabricator, if known.
3Can I bring my rug to your showroom for an in-person appraisal?
Absolutely. We welcome walk-ins and appointments at our showroom, where we can examine the piece in person and provide a more comprehensive assessment, often referencing similar examples from our collection.
4Do you charge for appraisals?
Informal valuations are often complimentary, particularly when discussing resale or restoration. For formal written appraisals intended for insurance, estate, or legal purposes, a service fee may apply—quoted based on scope and documentation required.
5What factors influence the value of a rug?
Value is determined by a combination of age, rarity, origin, material, knot density, condition, and historical or cultural significance. Market trends, provenance, and restoration history may also play a role in shaping a rug’s appraisal.
6Can you help me sell a rug I own?
Yes. We’re happy to offer guidance on pricing, presentation, and strategy for resale. In select cases, we may offer to acquire the rug directly or facilitate introductions to collectors, designers, or dealers within our network.
7Do you appraise rugs from all regions and styles?
We have experience appraising a wide range of styles—from classical Persian and Turkish rugs to tribal, Moroccan, Scandinavian, and mid-century European pieces. If a piece falls outside our specialization, we’ll gladly recommend an appropriate expert.
8Is your appraisal accepted for insurance or legal use?
Our formal appraisals are written in accordance with industry standards and accepted by most insurance providers. If the appraisal is intended for legal or estate purposes, please let us know in advance so we can tailor the documentation accordingly.
9Can you assess whether a rug is authentic or a reproduction?
Yes. With proper photos or an in-person evaluation, we can often determine whether a rug is handmade, machine-made, antique, or a modern reproduction—along with insights into its quality and construction.
