About the Artist:
A neo-New Yorker from New Delhi, India, Surface Designer Nikita Nagpal serves R&K in leading both our in-house art department and our remote design department in India, utilizing an extensive background and an equally impressive passion for the industry. An honors bachelor of arts in Fashion Design with an MFA in Fibers from the Savannah College of Art and Design, 2019 marked Nikita as the recipient of the prestigious Red Dot Award for Design Concepts in Material Innovation, the IDA Design Awards, Gold, and a published Finalist in the Dorothy Waxman Textile Design Prize. With multiple bold, pioneering projects under her belt, Nikita believes in the beauty and necessity of Process Art, a builder with a deep love of all things tactile now working directly with Josh Nazmiyal in their common passion for material innovation and creation.
Further on the Design:
Nagpal’s inspiration from inception was the painterly brushstroke style, later transforming the illustration into a digital medium to visualize it as an unprecedented take on art rugs in the abstract. The departure from other abstract pieces emphasizing more clean, sometimes monotonous looks for something more exploratory and shabby-chic marries the best of possibility and simplicity, modern while livable (as the latter was a key intention behind the Homage Collection since it was introduced). The texture of the rug complements the abstract design in such a way no one has really tried before our team, lending a new dimensionality to a style that Josh has seen become somewhat saturated on the market (while still remaining approachable and affordable). A proud work between our principal, Nagpal, and our long-standing partner loom in India—requiring constant attention from development at every stage of production to ensure this more value-oriented choice still maintained our quality-conscious reputation.
This piece, like all pieces in the Homage Collection, employs all-natural wool with renewability, sustainability, and eco-conscious design in mind.
