The Long Life of a Green: On Celery, Color of the Year, and the Four Centuries of Weaving That Anticipated It
Every year, the color world makes its pronouncement, and every year the design world turns to see what it has been given. For 2027, Sherwin-Williams has named Celery; a light, airy, herbal green with a yellow undertone, chosen, in the company's words, for a moment that prizes wellness, balance, and connection. It is a soft color with a quiet glow and a faint edge; it pairs, its makers note, with white for something breezy, with cranberry red for something playful, with brown for something elevated. It is, by any measure, a beautiful and intelligent choice. It is also a color the great weavers of the world have understood for four hundred years.

Navajo Rugs: History, Art, Design & the Legacy of Diné Weaving
Navajo rugs occupy a singular position within the history of American textile art. Woven by decorative tradition. They embody generations of knowledge surrounding sheep, wool, spinning, natural materials, color, geometry, landscape, community, and cultural continuity. simultaneously as cultural expression, design, craftsmanship, and fine art. the familiar geometric vocabulary. What Makes Tibetan Wool the Gold Standard for Custom Rugs
Every great rug begins long before the loom. It begins on the animal, in the place, in the particular conditions that made the fiber what it is. And among all the wools that have ever been spun into a carpet, few can rival the wool of the Tibetan highlands, a material whose superiority is not a matter of marketing but of altitude, climate, and the unhurried logic of the natural world. The sheep of the Tibetan plateau live at elevations that would defeat most living things, thin air, brutal cold, a growing season measured against a sky closer than it has any right to be. Nature's answer to that severity is the fleece. To survive the plateau, the animal must grow a wool of exceptional density and, crucially, of exceptional lanolin content; the natural oil that coats each fiber, repels water, resists soil, and lends the finished yarn a luster and resilience that lowland wools cannot approach. What is hardship for the animal is a gift to the weaver.

The Evolution of Floral Motifs in Antique Rugs and Kilims: Mapping the Pomegranate, Tulip, and Carnation
Antique 17th Century French Beauvais Tapestry with Floral Vase - Rug & Kilim, NO. 36829 We had a tapestry acquisition unfolding itself in the studio a while ago. Josh and the team just stood there, silently admiring the way the light caught the threads. This was the Antique French Beauvais Tapestry (SKU 36829). It was handwoven in wool, with natural silk accents, circa 1700. When you look at something like that, you do not just see fabric. What you see is the garden of wool and dreams. The precise interlacing of the wefts gives a picture of a gigantic floral vase placed atop an architectural entablature. The botanical imagery is absolutely mesmerizing. There is so much wealth and mystery to it all.

A Profile on Bauhaus Master Anni Albers – The “Godmother of Textile Arts”
Anni Albers's significance lies in her transformative impact on textiles, elevating weaving to the status of an art form. At a time when early 20th-century Western fine art was largely confined to painting and sculpture created by men, Albers broke through the conventional boundaries and introduced textiles as a legitimate medium for artistic expression. Her groundbreaking influence became evident in 1949 when the Museum of Modern Art hosted an exhibition solely dedicated to Albers's work, titled "Anni Albers Textiles" This event marked the first instance of a textile artist being featured in a solo show at the prestigious institution. The exhibition, which showcased Albers's innovative and artistic approach to weaving, traveled to 26 museums across the United States and Canada. Albers coined the term "pictorial weaving" for her intricate woven abstractions, emphasizing thread as a carrier of meaning.

UNDERSTANDING THE MID-CENTURY MODERN RUG COLLECTION
The Mid-Century Modern Collection by Rug & Kilim represents founder Josh Nazmiyal’s hope to honor the iconic aesthetic pioneered by designers of the 1950s in the limelight of modern design as it’s never been presented in the luxury rug industry before. These newly released additions represent the first major production of mid-century style fabric patterns as custom, high-quality luxury rugs in our collaboration with both established and up-and-coming artists sharing our passion for the style. The collection is the product of several years researching and refining our approach to large-scale drawing, texture, and color in a constantly refined method of capturing the pattern. Collaborative new pieces just joining the line marry post-war and atomic age design sensibilities with new design elements as our team collaborates with foundations representing the pioneers of the design as well as contemporary artists sharing Josh’s passion for the historic style.
