This 8x14 vintage rug is believed to be a rare mid-century Ersari rug, hand-knotted in wool and originating in Turkey circa 1950-1960.
On the Design:
The Ersari are a sub-tribe of the Turkmen people, often known for their more distinct tribal rug designs.
In this rug, beige-brown and blue tones underscore geometric patterns in the field and border alike. Admirers of the craft may further note these four rows of repeating medallions in the field have a clear influence from Bokhara rugs of the same and previous periods.
